Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic is now looking increasingly likely to join Manchester City amid links to Liverpool.

Manchester City are making their move to sign Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic with personal terms discussed.

That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who claims that City have been in ‘concrete talks’ to sign Kovacic this summer.

It’s stated that ‘positive discussions’ have taken place in the last few days with personal terms being thrashed out.

Chelsea are happy to sell Kovacic but the deal hasn’t got to the point of club-to-club talks just yet.

City have been speaking to Kovacic’s camp in the hope of securing a deal early in the summer window.

Kovacic is out of contract in 2024 and Chelsea seemingly fancy cashing in now before he leaves for absolutely nothing in a year.

City still don’t know about the future of Ilkay Gundogan, who is a free agent this summer.

Whether Gunodgan stays or not, City need more bodies in midfield and they seem ready to pounce for Kovacic.

Mateo Kovacic to Liverpool rumours can be ended

Hailed as ‘incredible’ by West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice, Kovacic is impressive on the ball and his ability in tight spaces will certainly appeal to Pep Guardiola.

The 29-year-old may fancy a fresh start away from Chelsea and there are few mangers more appealing to play under than Pep Guardiola.

City are now expected to sign Kovacic, which can kill off lingering rumours surrounding a move to Liverpool.

90Min reported in April that Liverpool were expected to hold talks with Kovacic’s representatives over a move to Anfield.

Liverpool are desperate for midfield additions this summer but now seem to be going for a different profile than Kovacic.

Nice star Khephren Thuram and Borussia Monchengladbach ace Manu Kone are the latest targets, and they’re a little more all-action than Kovacic.

Add in that they’re considerably younger and Liverpool seem to be out of the Kovacic race with Manchester looking to be his likely destination.
