Fabrizio Romano has reported on Twitter that Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool did not make an approach to sign Arsenal target Ruben Neves from Premier League rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers on the final day of the summer transfer window.

The well-known and well-respected journalist has claimed that Liverpool only wanted a loan deal for a midfielder.

Romano has added that the Merseyside club did not make an approach for the Portugal international midfielder on summer transfer deadline day.

The Italian journalist has further relayed comments from Wolves manager Bruno Lage that the club plan to hand the 25-year-old midfielder a new contract.

90min reported last week that Neves was one of the midfielders that Liverpool had on their radar.

The Portugal International midfielder – described as “a top, top player” and “sensational” by former Manchester United star Gary Neville on Sky Sports Premier League (7:29pm, March 18, 2022) – was linked with Arsenal as well.

The Sun reported in August that Arsenal and Manchester United were interested in signing Neves, with Wolves looking for £80 million in transfer fees for the 25-year-old.

Loan deal would never have happened

In our view, Liverpool would never have been able to sign Ruben Neves on a loan deal from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

There was no incentive whatsoever for Wolves to send Neves on loan to Liverpool or Arsenal.

After all, the Portuguese star is one of the best and most important players in Bruno Lage’s team.

Liverpool eventually signed Arthur Melo on loan from Juventus on the final day of the summer transfer window.
