Fabrizio Romano claims Liverpool were making calls about signing Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat late into Tuesday night.

Liverpool have explored a deal to sign Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat as Manchester United stall on a potential move.

That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who has taken to YouTube in order to discuss Amrabat’s future and a potential move to Liverpool.

Amrabat was a hot name on Wednesday night as reports from Dutch newspaper newspaper Algemeen Dagblad suggested that Liverpool were ‘on track’ to sign Amrabat.

It was claimed that Liverpool had agreed a deal worth around €35million (£30million) to sign Amrabat.

However, Romano has calmed those rumours whilst explaining the state of play.

Romano claims that those reports from the Netherlands are not true but Liverpool did make calls late into Tuesday night about signing Amrabat.

It’s stated that Liverpool wanted to try and learn how much a deal would cost, both in terms of Fiorentina’s demands and the wages Amrabat needs.

Liverpool have yet to make an offer to either Fiorentina or Amrabat according to Romano as the Reds weigh up their options.

Romano adds that Amrabat accepted a move to Manchester United nearly two months ago but the Red Devils still don’t have a deal in place – and this delay means Liverpool may have a window of opportunity.

“We had rumours in the Dutch media of Amrabat on his way to Liverpool, from what I’m told, this is not the case today,” said Romano. “What happened is that yesterday (Tuesday), Liverpool, in the night, called on Amrabat’s side to be informed on the conditions of the deal, so Liverpool know how much it takes to sign Sofyan Amrabat on the club side and on the player side – now it’s on Liverpool, they didn’t submit a bid to Fiorentina and they didn’t submit a bid to the player.”

“At the moment, Amrabat remains on his position, he said yes to Manchester United at the end of June but it’s also two months of waiting, and waiting, and waiting so it’s on Manchester United now; Amrabat is waiting for Manchester United but now they have to submit the bid,” he added.

Don’t be surprised if Liverpool move for Sofyan Amrabat even after Wataru Endo deal

Liverpool have been linked with every holding midfielder under the sun of late having missed out on both Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia to Chelsea.

The Reds now appear to be on the verge of signing Stuttgart midfielder Wataru Endo.

The Athletic’s David Ornstein claims that Endo is having a medical with Liverpool today after agreeing a shock £16.2million deal.

Endo, 30, has been underrated during his time with Stuttgart but few could have predicted a move to Liverpool.

It’s hard to imagine that Liverpool are resting all of their defensive midfield hopes on Endo and we could yet see one more signing there given that the Japan star isn’t breaking the bank.

Amrabat could be that player; signing him for £30million on top of Endo would still be cheaper than just buying Lavia.

Liverpool could be going in a totally different direction after missing out on the Belgian and if United don’t make their move for Amrabat soon, Liverpool will be ready to go.
