Pep Guardiola has asked Manchester City to make a move for Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Matheus Nunes.
Manchester City are turning their attention towards Wolverhampton Wanderers ace Matheus Nunes on Pep Guardiola’s recommendation.
That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who has been speaking about Nunes on his YouTube channel.
Romano claims that City are still seeking one more midfield option once a deal for Jeremy Doku is completed.
Lucas Paqueta was the top target but any deal for the West Ham United midfielder is thought to be completely off.
City are turning their attention elsewhere with Romano claiming that City like Eberechi Eze and Matheus Nunes.
Intriguingly, Romano claims that Pep Guardiola is especially keen on signing Wolves midfielder Nunes.
Romano suggests that Guardiola mentioned Nunes during an internal transfer meeting at City, pushing for his arrival.
Wolves don’t want to lose Nunes having seen so many players leave this summer but Guardiola wants him at the Etihad Stadium.
“City want one more midfielder, it’s true that they appreciate both Eze and Matheus Nunes,” said Romano. “For Matheus Nunes, it’s especially Pep Guardiola who is pushing internally. He is a player he really rates, he really appreciates and Pep mentioned his name in internal meetings at Manchester City.”
“Of course, City know that Wolves don’t want to sell the player now but Pep mentioned the name of Matheus Nunes as one of the possibilities,” he added.

Liverpool pulled away from Matheus Nunes deal
City could now pounce to bring Nunes to the Etihad Stadium after a strange transfer saga involving Liverpool earlier this year.
The Telegraph reported way back in January that Liverpool had a commitment in place sign Nunes in a £44million deal at the end of the season.
Wolves and Liverpool fans were baffled as it was suggested that there was an agreement in place after Nunes left Sporting last summer.
The Telegraph then added in April that Wolves had removed the clause in Nunes’ contract which had paved the way for that Anfield move.

The whole situation sounded bizarre and Liverpool allegedly backed away completely as Wolves wanted over £50million.
The Reds continue to hunt for another midfielder but are looking for a different type of player to Nunes now.
Liverpool want a holding midfielder rather than a quick box-to-box player like Nunes, meaning they are unlikely to challenge City for his signature.
The Portuguese midfielder was expected to be a Liverpool player just a few months ago but is now being linked up by Manchester City with days of the window left to go; oh how football can change.
