Lucas Moura is set to rejoin Sao Paulo on a free transfer after leaving Tottenham Hotspur earlier this summer.

Tottenham Hotspur released Lucas Moura this summer and he is now poised to rejoin former club Sao Paulo.

That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who claims that Lucas has signed the contracts to join Sao Paulo.

It’s stated that Lucas will rejoin Sao Paulo on a deal until December of this year, handing him a short-term comeback.

Romano claims that the deal will be official ‘soon’ as Sao Paulo look to make another big-name signing.

Sao Paulo have already snapped up playmaker James Rodriguez, landing the Colombian just a few days ago.

Lucas is now poised to follow Rodriguez to Brazil in an emotional move for the winger.

The 30-year-old hails from Sao Paulo and spent seven years with the club as a youngster.

Lucas broke through with Sao Paulo to become one of the most in-demand talents around, famously choosing a move to Paris Saint-Germain in 2012 rather joining Manchester United.

Now heading back home, Moura will be looking to make a big impact in the coming months.

Tottenham were right to let Lucas Moura leave

Tottenham snapped up Moura in January 2018 as Mauricio Pochettino looked for more attacking firepower.

Lucas had his big moment in the Champions League win over Ajax, smashing a hat-trick to take Tottenham into the final against Liverpool.

The Brazilian racked up more than 200 appearances for Tottenham whilst bagging 39 goals, but largely blew hot and cold.

The time was right for Spurs to move on this summer, with Lucas making next to no impact last season.

Tottenham have now gone in a new direction under Ange Postecoglou and have already replaced Lucas by signing Manor Solomon on a free transfer.

Spurs just couldn’t carry Lucas anymore and he is probably very happy to be making an emotional return to his former club.
