Two English clubs are understood to have made moves for Lyon star Rayan Cherki this summer amid links to Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.

Lyon ace Rayan Cherki was targeted by not one but two Premier League clubs during this summer’s transfer window.

That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who claims that Cherki was a man in demand during the summer window.

Romano states that Chelsea were ‘never really’ far down the line with a move for Cherki despite strong rumours.

Romano does believe that Chelsea have been tracking Cherki but an actual move to Stamford Bridge was ‘never close’.

Romano went onto claim that two Premier League clubs fancied signing Cherki over the summer.

Lyon completely refused to sell but it sounds like Chelsea weren’t alone in targeting the Frenchman.

Romano wouldn’t name the other club in the mix but it may well have been Tottenham Hotspur.

Football Transfers reported in July that Cherki had held talks with both Chelsea and Tottenham over potential transfers.

Cherki ended up staying put but Tottenham may well have seen Cherki as a creative influence in the final third for Ange Postecoglou to utilise.

Who is Lyon ace Cherki?

Cherki was born in Lyon and joined the Olympique Lyonnais ranks at the age of just six.

Cherki emerged into the Lyon B team but is now a first-team player having broken through back in 2019.

Still only 20, Cherki has racked up 103 appearances for Lyon with 14 goals to his name.

Hailed as ‘exceptional’ by former Lyon boss Laurent Blanc, Cherki has played out wide or as a number 10, showing some outstanding skill and technique throughout.

Cherki is on course for a big career and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him in the Premier League one day.
