Arsenal have moved another step closer to signing Brentford goalkeeper David Raya after agreeing personal terms.

David Raya has now agreed terms with Arsenal as he seeks to push through a move to Arsenal this summer.

That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who claims that Arsenal have ‘reached an agreement in principle’ with Raya.

It’s stated that Raya’s representatives have now informed Brentford that the goalkeeper wants to join Arsenal now.

Romano adds that talks between Arsenal and Brentford are expected to accelerate as they seek to agree a price.

This has moved forward fairly quickly, as it was only on Sunday that The Athletic reported Arsenal’s interest in exploring a deal for Raya.

That stunned many as Arsenal already have a first-choice goalkeeper in Aaron Ramsdale.

Yet with Mikel Arteta keen to create competition for places and Matt Turner not exactly a great fit for Arsenal’s style of play, Raya is emerging as a key target.

Arsenal close in on David Raya after Tottenham missed out

Arsenal have liked Raya for a long time now.

Gunners goalkeeping coach Inaki Cana worked with Raya at Brentford and would no doubt love to reunite.

Arsenal have never been able to get a deal over the line but they now appear to be in a great position.

This comes just weeks after Tottenham missed out on bringing Raya to North London.

Romano reported in June that Raya had accepted contract terms from Tottenham and talks were ongoing to bring down his price tag.

Tottenham couldn’t tempt Brentford into bringing down their demands though, and despite having that agreement with Raya, they moved on to sign Italian stopper Guglielmo Vicario instead.

That will make this move for Raya even sweeter from Arsenal’s perspective, as they could land Tottenham’s preferred goalkeeping target without even promising first-team action.
