Fabrizio Romano has told the House of Champions podcast that Aston Villa and Argentina goalkeeper and Emi Martinez could join either Manchester United or Chelsea next season.
The 30-year-old is one of the most talked about footballers in the world after an excellent World Cup campaign for Argentina.
If Emiliano Martinez’s penalty shootout heroics against the Netherlands didn’t already make him a hero, his exploits against France certainly did.
In the game, the ex-Arsenal shotstopper made huge saves, particularly to keep Kolo Muani’s strike from hitting the back of the net in the dying embers of the clash.
During the penalty shootout as well, the Villa No.1 saved Kingsley Coman’s strike while putting Aurelien Tchouameni off, whose spot-kick was not even on target.
As Emi Martinez returns to Birmingham as a hero, his future already has a dark cloud surrounding it, according to a latest update.
Emi Martinez could head to Manchester United or Chelsea in 2023

As per the latest information provided by Fabrizio Romano (via the House of Champions Podcast), Emi Martinez could join either Manchester United or Chelsea as part of a goalkeeping domino effect in the summer.
“Let’s see in the summer, the domino effect with start with goalkeepers, maybe Chelsea or maybe with Man United. Emi Martinez could be one of them [who could potentially join these two teams if such a situation occurs].”
This revelation does not come as a major surprise, considering all the big clubs are expectedly eyeing the in-form goalkeeper.
Recently, even Tottenham were claimed to be interested in the World Cup winner by Dean Jones, in conversation with Give Me Sport.
Martinez could transform both United and Chelsea
In David De Gea, Manchester United have a No.1 who simply does not fit Erik ten Hag’s idea of a ball-playing goalkeeper.
On the other hand, Emi Martinez first made his name at Arsenal under Mikel Arteta due to being extremely comfortable with the ball at his feet.
The same goes with Edouard Mendy and Graham Potter, as Chelsea could do with a man in between the sticks such as the Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, who is more suited to the Englishman’s system.
Aston Villa must try their hardest to keep Emiliano Martinez, who was dubbed as a “phenomenon” by none other than Lionel Messi (via Guardian).
