Roman Pavlyuchenko has told Tottenham Hotspur’s official website that he still watches his former club.
The 34-year-old striker left Tottenham in 2012 after a disappointing four-year spell in North London following a £13 million switch from Spartak Moscow.
The Russian netted only 21 times in the Premier League and it is safe to say that he was not a hugely popular figure during his time at White Hart Lane.
His popularity did however grow in the latter part of his stay, when he scored four Champions League goals in 2011 – including a very big one in a 3-2 qualifying defeat at Young Boys, netting in the 83rd minute with another away goal which ultimately helped Harry Redknapp’s side overturn the deficit in the next leg.
“If I have a chance I always watch Spurs matches. Every time I do, I’m happy to see the stadium where I played,” he told Spurs’ website.
Tottenham fans will fear that they have another incarnation of Pavlyuchenko in their ranks at the moment, after another big-money striker in Roberto Soldado failed to be the type of hero which the Lilywhites needed.
Vincent Janssen, who joined the North Londoners for £18.5 million this past summer, has only scored three times – two in the League Cup, one in the Premier League – following his move, but all three came from the penalty spot.
He does not inspire confidence that he will, unlike Pavlyuchenko or Soldado, be a good return for the money, but it is still very early in his career at Tottenham.
