The early noises about the new Scottish Premiership campaign are being heard as Celtic and Rangers make their mark in the summer transfer window, as well as preparing in an efficient manner in pre-season training.

Rangers did quite a lot of their business early, but that’s not going to stop them from putting their hand into the cookie jar in these coming weeks, if need be. Celtic, on the other hand, have also been busy and will seemingly continue to be busy.

The Scottish Sun have claimed that Brentford want £2.5 million for their midfielder Romaine Sawyers, who is wanted by Celtic, with the Daily Record reporting that the Bhoys will pay it.

Sawyers is an outstanding midfield player who plays for English Championship side Brentford, and if he joins Celtic then he’ll bring some serious quality to the table.

More than likely the 27-year-old will sit in front of the defence, and just like Rangers’ January signing Glen Kamara, he’ll work his magic from deep, but he might just do it in a better manner.

Sawyers has great ability in being the most dominant on the ball, taking the ball out of tight areas and providing that sharp pass into the final third.

Not only that, if he does produce his best form then Sawyers will show that he is a better version of any other midfield player of his standing in Scotland, including the thriving Kamara, who is arguably the best player in that position, at this moment in time.

Ahead of the new Scottish Premiership campaign, the midfield’s of both the Old Firm duo will arguably be the most important as to who walks away with the title.

And the capture of Sawyers might just give Celtic the edge over their rivals, with one aiming to win nine titles in a row, and the other looking to win their first piece of silverware under their manager.
