Roma have reportedly upped their interest in Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech, but they face a battle with Liverpool and several others for his signature.
Jose Mourinho has insisted that he wants to keep Petr Cech as back-up at Chelsea, but Roma are reportedly determined to swoop.
Cech has been relegated to second in the pecking order behind Thibaut Courtois this season and he has been linked with a host of clubs, including Arsenal, Liverpool, Real Madrid, Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain.
Serie A side Roma have also been widely tipped to make a move for Cech as they search for a longer-term answer to the No 1 position.
Current ‘keeper Morgan De Sanctis has signed a contract renewal at the Stadio Olimpico, but Roma directors are said to still want to bring in Cech.
However, last night’s Champions League elimination may have hindered Roma’s attempts to sign Cech, not least because it represents a significant loss of income.
Roma would certainly struggle to pay Cech the kind of wage bill he commands at Chelsea and the Giallorossi may have to look closer to home for a custodian.
