AS Roma are now reportedly in advanced talks to sign Memphis Depay from FC Barcelona, with Tottenham seemingly set to miss out on the attacker to former manager Jose Mourinho.
According to Sport, Roma are working hard to agree on a deal to sign Depay, with Barcelona setting an astonishing €2m (£1.7m) asking price for the Netherlands international. However, as per the report, the Serie A side want the attacker for free or on a six-month loan deal.
Barcelona are keen to offload Depay in January as Xavi Hernandez’s side look to shave as much as possible off the wage bill amid the club’s financial problems, with the Catalan manager keen to free up something on the payroll to bring in a midfielder in the winter window.
And Depay seems to be the player who will leave Barcelona, though to the dismay of Tottenham, Roma now look set to sign the 28-year-old attacker, who has been linked with a move to the north London club for as long as Antonio Conte has been in charge.

90min reported earlier in the year that Depay was a target for Tottenham in the January window. However, Roma now look to have taken a convincing lead over the Premier League side in the race to sign the Barcelona outcast, who could prove to be one of the bargains of the window.
Whilst Depay’s wages will be one of the highest at Roma, there’s no denying that the attacker alongside the likes of Tammy Abraham and Paulo Dybala would be a dangerous trio for the Serie A side and one that could spur Mourinho’s men into the top-four.
Roma signing Depay could make Serie A one of the best divisions to watch

Tottenham missing out on Depay will feel like a blow for Conte. However, for Roma and for Serie A, the Dutch international moving to Italy is a perfect advert for the league and could lead to the Roman club making a second-half surge for a UEFA Champions League spot.
Indeed, Depay has shown over the years that he can be one of the best attackers in Europe when fully fit and actually playing. And Roma are now primed to fully take advantage of this in January if a deal can be agreed upon in the coming weeks.
