Chelsea have been linked with a big-money move for Real Madrid’s Sami Khedira but they may face competition from Roma.
Midfielder Sami Khedira may well leave Real Madrid this summer, but the German international could be the subject of a bidding war.
Khedira was a major player in Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid side and there have been reports in Spain that the Special One is determined to bring him to Stamford Bridge to strengthen the area in front of the defence.
It has been suggested that Chelsea are willing to pay around £36m for the man Mourinho signed for £10m in 2010 while at Real.
Khedira has been injured for much of the season and while he has now shaken off a knee problem he is firmly behind Xabi Alonso and Luka Modric in the Real Madrid midfield pecking order.
The 27-year-old may welcome a new club in June and could be a good fit for Chelsea, but they may need to beat Serie A side Roma to the punch.
However, the paper admits that Khedira’s wage demands of around £4m are likely to be a stumbling block for Roma, who don’t have vast amounts of cash to spend.
Fiorentina were also said to be interested in Khedira a while ago but were put off by the financial demands of such a move.
