The Magpies ace started the Owls’ derby with Sheffield United in Monday night’s Championship clash at Hillsborough.

Rolando Aarons has not really been having the the best of times at Newcastle United but is definitely starting to find his feet on loan at Championship club Sheffield Wednesday.
The 23-year-old found himself surplus to requirements for the Magpies this season as he linked up with Czech club FC Slovan Liberec in September, returned to St James’ Park in January and then joined the Owls later that month, without featuring for his parent club at all this term (Transfermarkt).
Aarons has made six appearances for Wednesday and, as testament to his efforts on the training ground, was named by Steve Bruce in the starting XI for Monday night’s Steel City derby against Sheffield United.
Derbies can sometimes faze players but the Magpies loanee appeared anything but, putting in a good display which was given a 7.3 rating by Whoscored, the third-highest in the Owls line-up, as the two rivals played out a 0-0 draw.

Likewise, The Star gave Aarons a seven out of 10 in their post-match ratings and wrote that he “grew into the game over the first half and saw more of the ball towards the end of that period. Went on a great run to send a tempting cross in for Sam Hutchinson who was just unable to turn it past Henderson.”
With Aarons being just 23 years of age and contracted to Newcastle until the summer of 2021 (Transfermarkt), there is much scope for him to eventually break into the Magpies ranks, and he’s doing his prospects no harm at all with his performances and progress at Hillsborough.
