Newcastle United wanted to sign Daniel Sturridge in 2018.

Newcastle United missed out on Daniel Sturridge in 2018 – and Rolando Aarons may be gutted that he never got the chance to play with the striker.
The Magpies had hoped to take Sturridge on loan in January 2018, and The Chronicle stated how he was expected to arrive on Tyneside for talks after being given the green light by Liverpool.
West Brom swooped in and hijacked the deal though, and Newcastle won’t have regretted it, given how little Sturridge did for West Brom and even since returning to Liverpool.
The 29-year-old scored just four times this season, starting just eight times in all competitions, whilst he also registered two assists for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
On Tuesday, Liverpool confirmed that Sturridge will become a free agent, as his contract at Anfield will expire next month and won’t be renewed, meaning he’s now looking for a new club.

It’s hugely unlikely that Newcastle would ever go back to Sturridge after the saga almost 18 months ago, but Magpies winger Aarons has taken to Twitter to hail the striker.
Aarons has admitted that Sturridge has been one of his favourite players since his stunning 24-goal season in 2013-14, admitting it will be ‘weird’ to see him away from Liverpool but wished him the best for the future – and he may well hold out hope that the pair can feature together for Newcastle in the future, even if it’s unlikely.
