The Newcastle United youngster is getting closer to a return.

Newcastle United youngster Rolando Aarons has taken to Twitter to comment on his ongoing fitness regime.

The 20-year-old has been side-lined since late August due to a broken metatarsal but he is now back in training and looking to make an impact in the coming months.

“Getting closer,” the Newcastle player wrote on Thursday morning, along with a picture of him in training.

The Magpies have done brilliantly without him and currently find themselves flying high at the top of the Championship, three points clear of second-placed Brighton & Hove Albion and an impressive eight points clear of third-placed Huddersfield Town.

With that in mind, Aarons will struggle to get game-time even when he does return to action, but Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez has shown the importance of rotation so there are likely to be some chances for the young winger to impress.

Aarons has featured 22 times for Newcastle so far, scoring three goals and providing two assists in the process.

But his career has faltered in recent times due to injury and he will now be looking to get fully fit and reignite what looks to be a hugely promising career.
