Newcastle United winger Rolando Aarons has rather surprisingly told the Chronicle that training under Steve Bruce has been more difficult than it was under Rafael Benitez.

Newcastle have only just started working with Bruce, but Aarons has been impressed by Newcastle’s new boss.

The rapid attacker, who appeared to have no future at St. James’ Park under Benitez, feels that Bruce has made some positive changes at Newcastle.

And Aarons insists that everyone at Newcastle has been enjoying working with Bruce.

“It’s been good,” he said. “We have been working hard behind the scenes. Training is harder than it was in previous years due to a different manager.

“But the boys are loving it. We’re getting used to it and it’s good.

“It’s strange as he’s only been here a week. But the boys are listening and looking to adapt to how he wants to play.”

Aarons was loaned out by Benitez last season, and worked with Bruce at Sheffield Wednesday.

Bruce is known to be a fan of the Newcastle wide-man, and has offered him a chance over pre-season.

Whether Aarons has now done enough to convince Bruce that he can help Newcastle over the upcoming campaign remains to be seen.

If Aarons did impress at St. James’ Park it would be a remarkable turnaround though, as it seemed certain he would depart when Benitez was at the helm.
