Mohamed Salah cut an abject figure in Paris last month after Liverpool lost the Champions League final.
Jurgen Klopp’s side suffered a 1-0 defeat by Real Madrid at Stade de France, ensuring the Reds – who missed out on the Premier League title by a point one week before – endured a miserable end to the campaign.
Losing the Champions League final was particularly disappointing for Liverpool because the English outfit completely dominated it.
However, a second-half goal from Rodrygo was enough to see off Salah and his teammates.
The Brazil international has been speaking to the Podpah podcast on YouTube and has revealed some words of encouragement that the Liverpool attacker received from Luka Modric directly after the game during a guard of honour.
He said: “After the [Champions League] final ended we did the corridor for the Liverpool players. Salah was passing, a bit sad, and Modrić said ‘next time you try again’.”
The defeat will have been additionally disappointing for Salah because the build-up to the encounter was dominated by a revenge theme.
The Liverpool forward spoke about how he wanted to avenge the Reds’ Champions League final defeat by Real in 2018, with Thierry Henry telling the 29-year-old to keep quiet and let his football do the talking.
In the end, Salah, despite his best efforts, couldn’t find a way past Thibaut Courtois, but no doubt he will take Modric’s apparent words on board and try again next season.
