Newcastle United have been linked with Deportivo Municipal youngster Rodrigo Vilca in recent weeks – and they appear to be on the verge of a deal.
The Daily Mail reported last month that Newcastle were pursuing a deal worth just £250,000 having picked out Vilca as a talent for the future.
Newcastle allegedly planned to loan Vilca out because he isn’t physically ready for the Premier League, with the 21-year-old needing to develop a little first.
RPP Noticias in Peru reported earlier this week that a deal had been agreed between the two clubs, and he would be travelling after facing Universitario de Deportes on Wednesday.
Deportivo Municipal were thrashed 5-0 at home, and Vilca left the field in tears when he was substituted as he played his final game for the club.
Vilca didn’t go out in the way he had hoped, but clearly felt emotional as he prepares to make his trip over to England, with the moment captured by Diego Montalvan of Telemundo Sports.
The playmaker will now hope to follow in the footsteps of Nobby Solano, in terms of becoming a Peruvian hero at St James’ Park.
That may take a while if Vilca is indeed heading out on loan, but his tears last night suggest that his departure and move to Newcastle are imminent.
