Rodrigo Bentancur says two Tottenham players have surprised him since he joined

Rodrigo Bentancur has told Italian newspaper Tuttosport that Harry Kane and Son Heung-min have “surprised” him since he joined Tottenham from Juventus – labelling them as “monsters”, but also “very helpful” off the pitch at Spurs.

The 25-year-old has become a mainstay at Tottenham since his arrival. Bought for a bargain £22m (ESPN) – £5.5m in three instalments and another £5.5m in add-ons – Bentancur is becoming one of the Premier League’s best midfielders.

Quickly forming a partnership with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Bentancur has gone to a new level this season. Pushed further forward by Antonio Conte with Spurs playing three men in midfield, he has scored five goals – creating two.

Speaking to Tuttosport though, Bentancur spoke of how two of his Tottenham teammates have amazed him since joining. He has heaped praise on Kane and Son, not just because of their ability – but their off-the-pitch personality.

“The truth is that, from the first moment I set foot at Tottenham, the two of them amazed me: I knew they were very strong, but I didn’t think up to this point. It’s one thing to see them on TV,” Bentancur told Tuttosport.

“It’s another to share work with them during the week, the locker room, day after day. They are monsters, champions with the ball at their feet, but they are also two simple guys and very very helpful. I swear: they surprised me.”

Bentancur is one of a number of Tottenham players to be shining this season. Kane, too. Eric Dier, despite a couple of recent performances, Ben Davies, Dejan Kulusevski, Hojbjerg and more. But investment is still required at Spurs.

They need a new right wing-back. Emerson Royal is not good enough for Spurs. They need an attacking midfielder and a striker that can take the work load off of Kane. Can all three issues be addressed in January?

If they are, Spurs fans can dream of a top-three finish and the potential to go far in the Champions League. But failure to do so, and it might be a nervous finish towards the end of the campaign in terms of clinging onto the top four.
