The centre forward has been linked with Leeds United but will seemingly spend the next two years in his homeland.
Rodri Rios has been speaking to Spanish publication AS about his move to Cultural Leonesa, suggesting there was no agreement with Leeds United as previously claimed.
The Whites have recently formed a partnership with the Spanish team, with Leeds’ managing director Angus Kinnear confirming as much in a recent interview with BBC Radio Leeds (01/08/2017 at 6:00pm).
However, while it had been suggested that Leeds would be signing the player before immediately sending him out on loan to Cultural, the 27-year-old has moved to end those claims.
“I was free and I signed for two years with Cultural,” Rodri is quoted as saying. “No more, no less.”
Cadena Ser reported last month that Leeds had acquired the player’s rights before loaning him out, with the possibility that he would move to Elland Road if he impresses in La Liga 2.
However if the striker is to be believed, there has been no such arrangement.
While new faces are always welcome at Leeds a move for Rodri, even in the future, seems questionable given the presence of Chris Wood and the club’s summer spending.
The arrival of Caleb Ekuban, Samu Saiz and Ezgjan Alioski means Leeds are now well stocked with goal-scorers and Rodri would have to go some to force a move to the Whites in the future.
