Rodri calls for ‘perfect’ Manchester City figure to stay amid exit rumours

Manchester City midfielder Rodri has called for Pep Guardiola to stay with the club following rumours that the Catalan manager could leave the Premier League giants at the end of this season.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, the Spanish international sent out a plea for Guardiola to stay at the Etihad Stadium beyond this campaign, with the City coach recently being questioned about his future at the club as the former Bayern Munich boss heads into the final year of his contract, as per BBC Sport.

Guardiola’s current deal with City expires in 2023, and little work has seemingly been done by the club to keep the 51-year-old in Manchester, with rumours now circulating that this season will actually be the legendary coach’s last one in the Premier League.

Whilst there have been no real rumours over who City could appoint to replace Guardiola, it is clear that players at the club are hopeful that the manager remains beyond this season, with Rodri not afraid to hide his support of the former Barcelona man remaining in Manchester.

Rodri said when asked about Guardiola potentially leaving: “We all love him, he’s done a great job in recent years. He’s our manager and if he decides to stay we’re all going to be so happy. I’ve been three years now with Pep and I hope there can be many more.”

The midfielder added: “It’s a fact that coaches get tired. I saw Diego Simeone, coaches who have been 11 or 12 years with the same team, and it’s understandable. But with this team we have for the next few years, I think Pep can see the future of this club. He has to be here. He’s the perfect coach for us and we can win more things together.”

Guardiola can’t leave Manchester City next summer

City are flying in the Premier League this season, with Guardiola recently masterminding an extraordinary 6-3 Manchester derby win against Manchester United, and with the Cityzens looking as strong as ever under the Catalan, there’s no chance that the club can be allowed the coach to leave next summer.

After all, Guardiola could create a second dynasty at City if he stays in Manchester beyond this season, and the club should be working now to hand the 51-year-old a new contract to tie his future down in England for the foreseeable future.
