Rodon aims dig at Tottenham boss Conte with comments on Rennes game time

Joe Rodon told Ouest France – as per Football London – that his confidence is improving as he continues to get regular game time out on loan at Ligue 1 side Rennes, in what could be seen as a little dig at Tottenham boss Antonio Conte.

Rodon, 24, managed just two substitute appearances in the Premier League for Tottenham after the arrival of the Italian last season. That is, despite reports claiming some of his Spurs teammates had been suggesting he play more.

It saw the 27-time Wales star move on loan to Rennes. He seems to be getting better with every game. After a tricky start, he scored his first-ever professional goal, and helped his side pick up a decent draw with Marseille on Sunday.

Outlets in France claim he was the best player on the pitch. WhoScored report he won more headers than any other player with five, and more blocks with three. Now, he is about to represent Wales in their latest Nations League games.

Speaking to Ouest France, he explained that he is becoming a better player due to more game time – something he did not get under Conte: “The coach gives me great confidence and gives me the opportunity to play matches.

“The more you play, the more confidence you gain. I made mistakes like everyone else but the whole team, not just me, really worked hard. I’ve loved every minute spent here so far. I hope there are still many good things to come.”

Rodon is certainly looking like a prospect in French football, after his opening nine appearances. One short of the number he got at Tottenham throughout the entirety of last season, in all competitions. He is a key player for Rennes.

Many felt Rodon – given his performances for Wales and Tottenham’s struggles in defence – was unlucky not to get more of a go. But Eric Dier is in sensational form, with Cristian Romero to his right and Ben Davies on the left.

Of course, Rodon will be impressing those at Tottenham and his performances give him every chance of reigniting his Spurs career. Much like William Saliba did with Arsenal on loan in Ligue 1 last term. But there is huge competition.
