Virgil van Dijk impressed for Liverpool in this afternoon’s win over Leicester City.

Liverpool left it late to beat Leicester City today – very late.
James Milner stroked home a stoppage-time penalty as Jurgen Klopp’s side maintained their 100 percent start to the Premier League season with a 2-1 victory over the Foxes at Anfield.
Sadio Mane fired Liverpool into a 1-0 lead over in-form Leicester at the break, but James Maddison equalised with 10 minutes left as Brendan Rodgers looked set to steal a point at his former club.
But Milner broke City’s hearts in the dying stages after Marc Albrighton fouled Mane inside the penalty area.
Despite being big favourites to win and boasting seven league victories on the spin prior to kickoff, Liverpool had to put in a serious defensive shift to record these three points.
Together, Dejan Lovren and Virgil van Dijk were exceptional in central defence, with the Croat deputising for the injured Joel Matip, but Rodney Marsh has singled out the Dutchman for praise, claiming that young defenders should study his positional play.
Van Dijk, valued at £90 million [Transfermarkt], has been outstanding in the Premier League this season. He hasn’t been as impervious in the Champions League, for example, but he’s such a good centre-back and Marsh is right, he puts on a clinic virtually every week.
