Southampton maintained their good run of form with a comfortable victory over West Ham United at the weekend.

The Saints got the better of West Ham 3-0 away from home at the London Stadium on Sunday evening.

Among the goalscorers for Southampton in London was Charlie Austin, who found the net in the 40th minute.

It was actually the 27-year-old forward who broke the deadlock in the Premier League game at the London Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Gary Lineker was following the match, and so was ex-Queens Park Rangers forward Rodney Marsh.

Both Lineker and Marsh praised Austin for his goal on Twitter while referring to the 27-year-old’s failed move to West Ham from QPR.

Back in August 2015, in an interview with Kumb.com, West Ham co-chairman David Sullivan ruled out a move for Austin, then at Rangers, claiming doubts over his knee.

Austin has been on the books of Premier League outfit Southampton since January 2016 when he joined them from QPR.

According to a report in The Guardian at the time, the Saints had to pay Rangers a transfer fee of £4 million in order to secure the services of the English forward.
