Brendan Rodgers says that Liverpool’s winning mentality gives him great hope that they will improve this season.
Liverpool may have had a poor start to the season, but Brendan Rodgers is refusing the panic.
The Reds boss says that he still has great hopes for his squad because they have shown that they have a strong desire to win.
Liverpool climbed to second in the table last season, but their form so far this season has not been up to scratch and they have struggled to pick up points.
However, their craving to win football matches was on display again at the weekend, as they picked up the victory against West Bromwich Albion.
“What we’ve done in the last 18 months shows the level of mentality the players have,” he said to the club’s official site. “They have got a real winning mentality. Their behaviours are very honest and committed – and that’s what always gives me great hope here as the manager.
“I know that once they start to click, and the new players adjust to being a Liverpool player and the players that were here find a way and philosophy to work with them, we’re going to be a very good team again.”
Liverpool spent big this summer to enable them to compete both domestically and in Europe, but their new signings have struggled to find form so far.
The likes of Mario Balotelli, Rickie Lambert, Dejan Lovren and Lazar Markovic have all had indifferent starts to their Anfield careers after signing during the summer, but Rodgers is clearly optimistic for their futures.
The win at the weekend means that the camp will be a much happier place over the international break and they should be further buoyed when they come back as Daniel Sturridge will be back in training.
The side’s star striker has been out for a prolonged period with a thigh injury, but Rodgers has revealed that he will be fit to face QPR and the Northern Irish boss believes his side will be in a better position once he is.
“Once the injured players return to the group, it puts us back in a good moment,” he said.
