Patrick Twumasi has admitted that he spoke to Brendan Rodgers about a move to Celtic before opting for La Liga outfit Alaves instead, while speaking to 442GH.
Back in the summer of 2017, when times were simpler and football still had fans on the terraces, the rangy Ghanaian international left a usually vociferous Parkhead stadium in stunned silence.
Twumasi scored two brilliant goals as Astana gave The Hoops a real scare in the second leg of a crucial Champions League qualifying tie, showcasing his speed, skill and lethal finishing skills under the watchful eye of Rodgers.
It wasn’t long after that game that the Celtic manager himself got in touch with Twumasi to ask whether he would be keen to strut his stuff in Glasgow on a more regular basis.
But, while the 26-year-old was flattered by their interest, the chance to prove himself in Spain was too good to turn down.
“I remember I had an offer from Celtic. They really wanted me when I was in Astana because I played against them in the Champions League game and I did very well,” he told 442gh.com

“Rodgers spoke to me after the game and after some days he got my number and called me. He told me he wanted me at the club.
“Even though I was interested, I was weighing up the options on the table together with my agent and it happened that we settled on Alaves. Maybe Celtic would have been good for me but you never know, such things are bound to happen sometimes.”
Twumasi is now on loan at Gaziantep in Turkey with his time in Spain not exactly going to plan. The twice-capped international failed to score a single goal in 13 games for Alaves, failing to replicate the match-winning displays he produced over in Kazakhstan for Astana.
