Could the 32-year-old forward leave Celtic this summer?
Quoted by The Scotsman, Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has spoken on Kris Commons’s future at Parkhead.
The 32-year-old does not appear to be the player he was in the Neil Lennon era and it remains to be seen whether Rodgers can see a long-term future for him with Celtic.
It has been suggested that he could be among those at risk to be axed as the former Liverpool boss looks to shape the side in his image, having replaced Ronny Deila in Glasgow this summer.
And Rodgers says that as soon as he’s fit he will sit down and determine whether the former Derby County man is compatible with his type of football.
“Kris, or any player for that matter, has to be able to play how I want to work,” said Rodgers via The Scotsman.
“They have to be able to run. They have to be able to press. They have to be aggressive.
“The possibility is open to every player. But at this moment in time, Kris is injured so he is just worrying about getting fit – then we will see where he is at.”
If Rodgers can bring the best out of Commons again then surely he is worth keeping, but it is admittedly a big ‘if’.
The English forward can certainly do it in the Scottish Premiership, as he demonstrated in the past.
He netted 27 times in Lennon’s final year in charge – 30 in all competitions – before then just scoring nine goals in Deila’s maiden stint.
