Scottish Premiership champions Celtic failed to sign Atalanta’s Serie A star Castagne in January – but should the defender still be a target for Rodgers at Leicester?

A move to Leicester City not only allows Brendan Rodgers the chance to rebuild his reputation in the Premier League – it should also permit the Northern Irishman to spend the sort of money he wasn’t given access to north of the border.
Rodgers didn’t hide the fact he was frustrated by Celtic’s inability to compete for many of his top targets with Atalanta’s Timothy Castagne one of many to slip through his grasp.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, The Hoops offered £8.8 million for the swashbuckling right-back but that still wasn’t enough to convince the Serie A outfit to sell. Considering that Celtic’s record signing stands at £9 million, it was unlikely that they could have put much more on the table.
Rodgers is unlikely to find such restrictions if he wants to bring the Belgian international to Leicester, however.

The Foxes are one of the more affluent sides in the middle of the Premier League and Castagne could be a welcome addition, particularly with long-serving Danny Simpson out of contract in the summer.
Castagne is an attack-minded and exciting full-back who would fit in perfectly at the King Power, perhaps allowing Ricardo Pereira to move into a more advanced role.
And £9 million plus would be a relative drop in the ocean compared to Celtic.
