Odsonne Edouard has turned into a very good signing for Celtic and there may be scope for a permanent deal in the summer.

Brendan Rodgers has suggested, in comments reported by Herald Scotland, that he has heard from some at Paris Saint-Germain that they believe that Odsonne Edouard has developed significantly during his time at Celtic, while the Hoops boss reiterated his desire to keep the young striker on a permanent basis.

Edouard has enjoyed an encouraging year on loan with the Bhoys. After an unspectacular, and perhaps slow, start at Parkhead, the 20-year-old has clearly found his feet and secured his place in Celtic folklore by scoring a stunning winner when the Hoops were down to 10 men and had been behind twice in the most recent Old Firm game.

And Rodgers has disclosed how delighted he is and how impressed those back at his parent club have been, and he insisted that keeping him beyond this season remains a priority for the club.

“What I do know is that he’s loving his time here. He’s taken to living in Glasgow and settled in really well. According to the people in Paris, they’ve seen him become a man in his time here, in terms of how he’s developed physically and as a player playing at a big club,” he said, as reported by Herald Scotland.

“You can only hope that you can continue with that player at your club. There’s an option there, but reports in terms of the numbers are quite wide of the mark really. But it’s private, that will be between the clubs.

With Moussa Dembele and Leigh Griffiths also in the ranks, it would perhaps be fair to suggest that Edouard will need to score a few more goals before the season concludes if he wants to make Celtic’s mind up for them.

Eight goals in 25 games is not a bad return given that he has started just 11 times in all competitions. And with Dembele seemingly being linked with a move away in every window since arriving in 2016, Rodgers would be forgiven for thinking that they may soon need to add to their striker options.

Scoring at the ground today where he marked his Celtic debut with a goal back in August may not be a bad way for Edouard to continue proving that he needs to be on the Hoops’ wishlist this summer.
