Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers has revealed to the Yorkshire Evening Post that he told his players to exploit Leeds United’s weaknesses yesterday.

Leeds lost 4-1 to Leicester in the end, with Rodgers’ game plan working to perfection.

The Leicester boss was very aware of the threat that Leeds’ possessed, especially if the game was too open.

But he felt that if his side stayed compact then Leeds would allow them space to play.

And he stressed that point to his players just before they walked out on to the Elland Road pitch.

“Leeds have obviously shown so far this season what a really good attacking team they are so you know you have to defend well,” Rodgers said.

“You also know there is space and I said that before the game that if you can have that composure and quality to play then you’ll get opportunities.

“I thought all round it was a brilliant performance. Defensively, tactically the players were very good – blocking spaces and getting tight. We’re disappointed with the goal we gave away early in the second half but in some ways it helps us going forward.”

In truth Leicester had the better of the fixture for large parts of the match.

The Foxes dominated the first-half and although Leeds started the second period brightly, they couldn’t bring the scores back level.

When James Maddison and Cengiz Under were added from the bench, Leicester started to get a stranglehold on the game again, and they fully deserved the three points that they collected in the end.
