Brendan Rodgers has told The Beautiful Game Podcast that former Liverpool forward Mario Balotelli should be one of the top three strikers in world football.

Balotelli joined Liverpool when Rodgers was in charge, as he was handed a chance to show his quality at Anfield.

The Italian international didn’t manage to make a big impact on Merseyside though, and Jurgen Klopp was quick to offload him in his first season after taking over.

Balotelli only scored four goals in 28 games for Liverpool, but Rodgers feels that he never really showed his talent.

“In my view he should be one of the top three strikers in the world. He has everything,” Rodgers said.

“But that’s the difference between a talent and a working talent. He doesn’t want to work.”

Balotelli has represented some of the biggest clubs in world football over his career, but he has always faced question marks over his attitude.

Despite playing for Inter Milan, Manchester City and AC Milan, Balotelli may look back on his career and feel that he never fulfilled a potential.

Balotelli is now 29 and currently players for Brescia in Serie A, where he has scored five goals in 19 games this term.
