With Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers ready to spend big to secure the Bhoys a spot in next season’s Champions League, could these Liverpool and Sunderland players feature on his list?
Brendan Rodgers has admitted he would not be afraid to break Celtic’s transfer record, after the Scottish champions posted a £19 million from the first half of the campaign.
Having the cash is one thing, but finding £6 million (plus) worth of footballer willing to play in Scotland will no doubt be Rodgers’ biggest challenge.

Nevertheless, here are three players whose arms the Bhoys boss might be able to twist:
Simon Mignolet (Liverpool)
Rodgers paid £9 to sign the Belgian goalkeeper from Sunderland three-and-a-half years ago and made him his number one ahead of Pepe Reina. Mignolet’s future is rumoured to be in doubt beyond the end of the current campaign, however, and Celtic are sure to be keen if Chelsea come back for Craig Gordon this summer.
Fabio Borini (Sunderland)
Another of Rodgers’ Liverpool recruits – although the Italian has since moved in the opposite direction to Mignolet – Borini also worked with the Ulsterman at both Chelsea and Swansea City, alongside Scott Sinclair. A new striker will be top of the Bhoys’ agenda if Moussa Dembele is sold this summer, and the 25-year-old is likely to feature highly on Rodgers’ list. Sunderland may be willing to oblige whether they are relegated or not.

Danny Ings (Liverpool)
The scorer of Liverpool’s final goal under Rodgers, Ings’ fortunes have sadly not improved since then thanks to a couple of season-ending knee injuries in quick succession. The Reds are being tipped to buy big next summer, which could see the former Burnley striker drop further down the Anfield pecking order, and Rodgers will no doubt be keen if his robbed of Dembele and Ings’ recovery goes to plan.
