Celtic enjoyed a 2-0 win over Dundee on Boxing Day, but it wasn’t all good news as Jonny Hayes was stretchered off with an injury.

The Bhoys claimed a comfortable victory thanks to goals from James Forrest and Leigh Griffiths, but manager Rodgers now has to deal with Hayes’ injury.

Hayes was stretchered off against Dundee following a challenge with Josh Meekings, and Celtic confirmed that he has suffered a broken leg, ruling him out for the rest of the season.

A summer signing from Aberdeen, Hayes hasn’t been a regular starter for Celtic, but losing him until next season is a blow to Rodgers’ options on the flanks for the second half of the campaign.

Rodgers may ramp up his efforts to bring in another wide man in January, and a deal for Chelsea’s Charly Musonda appears to be ideal.

Musonda, 21, has played just 26 minutes of Premier League action this season, and may need another loan move in January in order to continue his development away from Stamford Bridge.

The Belgian talent was wanted by Celtic over the summer, and The Scottish Sun report that Rodgers was already looking to mount a new move for Musonda in January.

Now, with Hayes out until the end of the season, a new move makes perfect sense. Chelsea can send Musonda to their former youth coach in Rodgers, allowing him to continue his progression in Scotland, whilst Celtic can use Musonda and bring Hayes back in at the end of the season – and a move for the Chelsea youngster just became so much more important after Hayes’ injury.
