Brendan Rodgers raved about the Celtic man recently.
Brendan Rodgers has told Herald Scotland that he definitely wants to keep Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon a little longer.
The 33-year-old – who turns 34 on December 31 when Celtic visit Rangers at Ibrox – is contracted to the Hoops until 2018.
But the Scottish giants have the option to extend that by a year if his performances merit an extension and, so far, they certainly have.
The former Sunderland stopper has been immense since displacing Dorus De Vries, who had swiftly taken the number one shirt off him back in August.
Rodgers had worked with De Vries at Swansea but it appears as if Gordon is definitely his go-to-guy now, and the Northern Irish manager says he intends on keeping the veteran, whom he says could emulate Edwin van der Saar.
“Craig is definitely one I want to keep,” said Rodgers. “You see now a different goalkeeper to when I first came in.
“How sure, how calm he is and there was another clean sheet on Saturday. He still has a lot of games in him.
“He’s 34 soon but he’s a top goalkeeper who looks after his body, lives his life the right away, and the Edwin van der Saar’s go onto 40. He has a good few years left.”
Rodgers’s side are 14 points clear at the summit of the Scottish Premiership and it seems like they are certain to pick up a sixth straight top-flight title.
