Brendan Rodgers has heaped praised on Tottenham striker Harry Kane and labelled him ‘world-class’, as he told Stadium Astro.

Tottenham will meet Leicester City in the Premier League on Sunday, as Kane hopes to continue his recent fine form in front of goal.

Kane has understandably taken a while to warm up following a long time out with injury, but regardless of whether he has a quiet game or causes the opposition problem after problem, he still manages to find the back of the net.

Ahead of today’s game, Rodgers spoke about how he appreciates Kane’s willingness to never give up because of previous loan moves ‘not quite working out’ and how he maybe thought his career in North London was ‘done’ at one point.

“He’s a world-class striker,” said Rodgers. “I don’t know him at all, but he seems a very humble guy who gets on with his work. And has obviously done great for Tottenham and England.

“He’s a top-level striker, who scores all types of goals and it’s a real reference for his club. You need resilience and you need talent, of course, and you need to have that real focus to want to work hard.

“You know with Harry going out on various loans and it not quite working out sometimes, and maybe thinking his career at Tottenham was done.

“But to persevere and then have that moment when he got in and he stayed in. He’s outstanding.”

Leicester City were one of the teams Kane went out on loan to during the early parts of his career when they were a Championship side.

He has come a long way since then and is now on course to becoming one of Tottenham’s greatest ever players, England’s highest goalscorer, as well as potentially beating Alan Shearer’s all-time Premier League record.

Kane will be looking to edge closer to the latter today when Spurs hope to boost their European hopes by beating the Foxes, who are trying to secure Champions League football.
