Scottish champions Celtic have made only one signing this summer.
Liverpool are reportedly looking to offload £5million-rated midfielder Pedro Chirivella this summer and that should prompt Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers into action – almost three years after the manager gave him his Liverpool debut.
The Telegraph have claimed 21-year-old midfielder Chirivella is a target for Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon, while the Mirror reported earlier this week that the Spanish youth international is interesting Nottingham Forest and Swansea City.
The ball-playing midfielder is said to be valued at around £5million, but is now one of six Liverpool players placed on the transfer list by Jurgen Klopp and Rodgers should take advantage of that.
Indeed, Rodgers gave Chirivella his debut back in September 2015 in a Europa League clash, and the Spain youth international has gone on to make five senior appearances for the Reds.
Celtic are in need of a central midfielder after selling Stuart Armstrong to Southampton, while Scott Allan, Ryan Christie and Callum McGregor are more renowned for their ability to get forward.
A holding midfielder is required as back-up for Scott Brown and Olivier Ntcham, with Kouassi Eboue yet to prove his transfer fee. Chirivella would be the perfect cover in the middle of the park.
Indeed, a reunion between Chirivella and Rodgers would certainly bring the best out of the Spaniard, with the player likely to hold the Northern Irish manager in high regard after being given his debut by Rodgers.
Celtic’s possession-based style would suit Chirivella to a tee, and at £5million, he is a bargain that would certainly boost the Hoops’ options as they go in pursuit of a third successive treble. A no-brainer for Rodgers and Celtic.
