Brendan Rodgers has told BeinSPORTS that Liverpool deserve the Premier League title whichever way the season ends.

The Premier League is currently working on restarting play, so Liverpool should have the opportunity to win the title mathematically.

But if the campaign is called off, Rodgers still feels that Liverpool have done enough to be awarded the league championship already.

“They’ve been the best team consistently in the country, and they deserve it absolutely,” Rodgers said.

“They have been first class, the level of consistency they have played it, it would be an absolute crying shame if they weren’t awarded the title.

“There’s no doubt they deserve it, it’s just a real shame they can’t share it with the supporters if they do get the title.”

The former Liverpool boss’s comments will go down well around Anfield, and it is difficult to argue with them.

Liverpool are 25 points clear at the top of the Premier League, and have thoroughly dominated English football this term.

The Reds are just two wins away from mathematically confirming themselves as Premier League winners for the first time in the club’s history.

At the moment, the Premier League appears to be on course for a restart in June.

Teams across the division returned to socially distanced training yesterday, as they step up their preparations for next term.
