In the summer, Youri Tielemans seemed destined for a move away from the King Power Stadium.

The Belgian international had hinted at his desire of departing Leicester City for a new challenge last term and with just a year left on his deal, an exit seemed inevitable.

Ahead of the Foxes’ 2-1 defeat to Southampton in August, Brendan Rodgers had gone as far as to reveal that Youri Tielemans, alongside now-Chelsea defender, Wesley Fofana was not in the right frame of mind to be deemed fit for selection.

Keeping all these factors in mind, alongside European giants such as Arsenal, Real Madrid and Manchester United reportedly keen on his signature, a transfer seemed all but confirmed earlier this season.

However, Tielemans ended up staying put at the club, as Rodgers has now confirmed that a sale in January also remains out of the question.

“It’s not something we are thinking of and not anything the club have said we need to do. We don’t want to be offloading our best players, that’s for sure”, he said, as quoted by the Sun.

The Leicester City boss continued, “So, there has been no hint or indication we need to generate money and move him on. But of course, there’s a business side to the club that they will look at.”

As things stand, Leicester are languishing at 18th place in the Premier League, which indicates that they simply cannot afford to lose a player of Youri Tielemans’ magnitude as soon as in January.

However, the club risk losing the 25-year old on a free transfer next summer, as plenty of clubs will snap up the in-demand midfielder.

With Tielemans putting all the transfer talk to one side by enjoying yet another fruitful campaign, it is next to impossible to see how Leicester will convince their lynchpin to stay put amidst trying times till the end of the season.
