Jay-Roy Grot has struggled to make an impression at Leeds since moving to Elland Road in the summer.
Former Leeds United coach Rod Christopher has urged Elland Road fans on Twitter to get behind attacker Jay-Roy Grot as he struggles to impress since his summer move to Yorkshire.
Grot, 19, has come in for criticism since his £1.5million move from Dutch Eredivisie side NEC Nijmegen, as he struggles to adapt to the physical rigours of the Championship despite his well-built frame.
Making 11 league appearances, he has clocked up just 132 minutes of Championship action as he is yet to be given a start, used instead as a substitute by manager Thomas Christiansen.
Christopher, who was a coach during the George Graham era, claimed on Twitter that fans should “love, not hate” the teenage powerhouse whose critics could be considered harsh due to his young age.
Grot joined Leeds after scoring seven goals last season in Holland’s top flight, mainly from out wide, and desperately need game time in order to show that he is capable of starring in English football.
Leeds fans reacted to Christopher’s tweet about Grot, with many showing their support for Leeds’ number 11. However, one fan claimed “throwing him in at the deep end” will “destroy him”.
