Spurs eased into the sixth round of the FA Cup with a 6-1 win over Rochdale.
Tottenham Hotspur earned an excellent 6-1 win over Rochdale in the FA Cup on Wednesday night as a number of Spurs’ fringe stars shone in the snow – but not all of Mauricio Pochettino’s men were firing on all cylinders.
Fernando Llorente scored a second-half hat-trick while Son Heung-min, Erik Lamela, Kyle Walker-Peters and Harry Winks all impressing. But Michel Vorm had a performance to forget between the sticks.
VAR clouded what was an excellent performance, especially in the second half, with the referee taking centre stage by disallowing a Lamela goal and changing a decision from free-kick to penalty, which saw Son score only for the ref to rule it out due to the South Korea international’s hesitation.
Holland international Vorm will have been playing with his future on the line against the League One side, as his current Spurs contract expires at the end of the season – a deal which sees Hugo Lloris’ back-up earn £22,000 a week according to the Daily Star.
But his display against Keith Hill’s side will have left Pochettino with more question marks than prior to the clash.
The 34-year-old was slow off his line to close down Rochdale striker Stephen Humphreys, who equalised at the end of the first half. He was almost to blame for a Rochdale second, as a clearance was blocked before the third-tier side hit the post.
With the former Swansea City ace running out of time and matches to prove he deserves a new deal, Wednesday night’s performance is only going to hamper his chances of earning a new deal, as Paulo Gazzaniga waits in the wings.
