Ethan Ebanks-Landell is on loan at Rochdale from Nuno Espirito Santo’s Premier League outfit Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Ethan Ebanks-Landell has returned to Wolverhampton Wanderers after suffering an injury on loan at Rochdale, first-team coach Brian Barry-Murphy has told the club’s official website.
The centre-back moved to Spotland on loan midway through the January transfer window and made an immediate impression for the League One side. Ebanks-Landell has made seven appearances so far in Rochdale colours with the club stuck in the relegation zone, two points from safety.
But could the 26-year-old have already played his last game for Rochdale? The defender suffered a quad injury in training on Monday and has now returned to parent club Wolves with the problem understood to be worse than it first appeared.
And Barry-Murphy is certainly sad to see Ebanks-Landell go.
“It was innocuous, but the scan has shown that it is slightly more serious than we thought. They’ve initially said that he’ll miss 3-4 weeks but it could be longer – I don’t for certain at this moment in time. He’ll go back to Wolves to be assessed because he’s not our player,” he said.
“He’s a big miss for us. He’s a very popular player in the dressing room and a great guy.”
Ebanks-Landell has another year left on his contract at Wolves but it seems unlikely that he will force his way into Nuno Espirito Santo’s plans any time soon.
The West Bromwich-born powerhouse hasn’t made a single appearance under the Portuguese boss and spent last season on loan at MK Dons.
