The Dutchman would add much needed quality to West Ham United’s front-line.
Slaven Bilic is desperately trying to secure a big name striker signing this summer, and has already been linked with numerous forwards during the transfer window thus far.
Some of his reported targets include Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott, according to the Daily Star, but Hammers fans will be fearing the worst, as their club once again seem to be making unrealistic transfer moves that are ultimately designed for failure.
Whilst the Croatian might yet be successful in bringing one of his primary targets to West Ham, there is still a possibility that he could head into this season’s campaign with the same old faces up front.
If this is the case, he should consider a cheaper option, with real Premier League pedigree, to do a job for the short-term, and who better than former Arsenal star Robin van Persie.
Fenerbahce’s Robin van Persie celebrates
The 33-year-old is currently plying his trade in Turkey with Fenerbahce, and would surely jump at the chance to move back to the Premier League.
Whilst he is obviously not the player he once was, the Dutchman still possesses impeccable technical ability, and would surely still be able to make a difference for the Hammers.
He scored 12 goals in 32 outings for the Turkish side last term, and has retained his finishing ability, despite losing half-a-yard of pace.
Van Persie is also a set-piece specialist – something that West Ham have been bereft of since Dimitri Payet’s acrimonious exit from the club in January of this year.
The former Manchester United hitman has just one year remaining on his current deal at the Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium, so the east London outfit would surely not have to offer too much to tempt the Turks into selling.
And if Bilic brings him to the London Stadium, it could turn out to be a signing of real significance for the Hammers.
