Robin van Persie has given his take on Arsenal central defender David Luiz, as quoted in The London Evening Standard.

The former Arsenal striker has outlined the attributes of Luiz, who can also operate as a defensive midfielder.

While Van Persie has spoken highly of the Brazil international’s skills and confidence on the ball, the former Manchester United striker has said that he makes ‘too many silly mistakes’.

The London Evening Standard quotes Van Persie as saying about Luiz: “With David Luiz, if he was 24 or 25 you would say he is potentially world-class. But he is not. He is 33.

“He has all the skills too because he is confident on the ball, he can pass, he can dribble. He can defend but he just makes too many silly mistakes which makes it easy for an opponent.

“If you play against him, I would go at him, almost try to bully him and to make physical contact with him and move around him and try to tease him a little bit because he is vulnerable.”

Stats

According to WhoScored, Luiz has made 25 starts and one substitute appearance in the Premier League for Arsenal so far this season, scoring two goals and providing one assist in the process.

The former Chelsea star has also played five times in the Europa League and thrice in the FA Cup for the Gunners this campaign, according to WhoScored.

Important player for Arsenal

Luiz does make mistakes, but he is a very good central defender who also makes crucial interceptions and tackles.

While at the age of 33 it is too late for the Brazilian to cut out the errors from his game, he is a very experienced player who will be an important figure in Mikel Arteta’s side next season.
