Robin Van Persie exit now looks unlikely

Place your bets on Robin Van Persie to remain at Arsenal when the season kicks off…

Ambition? How about signing Santi Cazorla and Nuri Sahin?

While both deals are not yet complete, it appears Arsenal could be about to make the two best signings of the whole summer.

If they both come off, Robin Van Persie – You have played a blinder. And it looks very much like the striker is even slowly coming around to a U-turn.

His exit options are limited, Juventus appear to have pulled out, while the Dutchman is less than keen, and interest from La Liga’s giants simply hasn’t materialised.

Manchester City are busy trying to offload their deadwood, while United are focusing on other targets. Arsenal hold all the cards, and Van Persie is realising he is boxed into a corner.

What it appears he is also now realising, is that particular corner isn’t so bad after all.

If Arsenal can wrap up the two superb deals of Nuri Sahin and Santi Cazorla, they will be demonstrating the very ambition Robin Van Persie said they were lacking.

Add in Olivier Giroud and Lukas Podolski in attack and Arsenal will suddenly be looking strong next season if the Dutchman stays, and dare we whisper it, even in for a title challenge.

Van Persie is rumoured to have travelled with Arsenal to play a pre-season game in Cologne for the club, hardly the actions of a player going on strike.

He certainly seems to be coming round to the idea of staying, and Arsenal’s recent transfer activity – which he likely will have been privy to behind the scenes – is likely to have played a big part.
