Everton new boy Robin Olsen has told the club’s official website that the press back in Sweden are writing constantly about the Toffees because they’re top of the league.
Carlo Ancelotti’s men made two signings on deadline day, kicking off the day with a permanent deal for Norwich City defender Ben Godfrey.
Late in the day, Everton completed a season-long loan move for goalkeeper Olsen, luring him from Roma as much-needed competition for Jordan Pickford.
Pickford has struggled in 2020, and with neither Jonas Lossl or Joao Virgina seen as real competition for the England international, Everton are now looking to Olsen for cover.
The 30-year-old joined Roma from Copenhagen in 2018, but was loaned out to Cagliari last season, whilst he also has 38 caps for Sweden.
Olsen will hope to take over from Pickford as Everton’s number one, but four wins in four Premier League games to start the season means this isn’t an easy team to break into.
Now, Olsen has admitted that the press back home in Sweden are writing about Everton all the time because they’re top of the league, with Olsen excited to join them.
Olsen added that he is close with Everton fans back home, and he was told that it will be a ‘really good season’ for the Toffees, which all seemingly factored into his decision to make the move.
“All the newspapers in Sweden are writing about Everton because the team is top of the league,” said Olsen. “It is exciting to be a part of that and see what we can achieve this season.”
“One of my very good friends in Sweden and his father are really, really big Everton fans. When I spoke to my friend before the season – he told me it’s going to be a really good season for Everton. He was so positive and happy,” he added.
