Fabrizio Romano has reported on Twitter that Robin Olsen will leave Sheffield United immediately and join Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa.
The well-known and well-respected journalist has claimed on the social networking site that Olsen will undergo a medical at Villa on Tuesday.
The 32-year-old Sweden international goalkeeper will then complete a loan deal from AS Roma, according to Romano.
Olsen, a former Everton loanee, will stay on loan at Villa until the end of the season.
The former Malmo FF goalkeeper joined Sheffield United in the Championship on loan from Roma in the summer of 2021, but it will now be cancelled.
Robin Olsen would be Emiliano Martinez’s back-up at Aston Villa
In our view, Olsen would be a back-up to Emiliano Martinez at Villa for the rest of the season, if he joins from Roma, of course.
Martinez, a former Arsenal goalkeeper, is the clear first choice between the posts at Villa Park.
That is not going to change.

However, Gerrard could do with an experienced goalkeeper who can be reliable if called upon.
Jed Steer is 29 now, but the Englishman has not been able to establish himself as a regular in the first team at Villa.
Olsen has played in the Premier League when he was on loan at Everton from Roma in 2020-21.
