Leeds United defender Robin Koch has told Sport1 of how impressed he was when the Whites lost to Arsenal in January.

The Whites had registered their interest in Koch well ahead of being promoted to the Premier League, and the German had his eye on them for a long time.

In January 2020, Leeds travelled to the Emirates Stadium for a mouth-watering FA Cup third round clash.

Marcelo Bielsa’s men were outstanding, launching 15 shots on the Arsenal goal in the first half, but they couldn’t find the net as Patrick Bamford hit the woodwork.

Reiss Nelson ended up winning the game for Arsenal, but Leeds dominated the ball, had more shots on goal and more shots on target in a performance that summed up how good they could be against top Premier League sides.

We’ve now seen that with superb showings against Liverpool and Manchester City this season, and it turns out that the defeat against Arsenal left an impression on Koch.

The defender, who joined Leeds from Freiburg over the summer, has admitted that he watched the game against Arsenal and was just so impressed with how brave Leeds were.

Koch believes no team entering the Bundesliga would play in that way, which is a huge compliment for Bielsa and the style of play at Leeds.

“I watched the Leeds cup game against Arsenal in January,” said Koch. “Leeds had more possession and were at least equal despite losing 1-0. Playing against a big club like this was tough. I can’t think of a newcomer in the Bundesliga who plays as bravely as we do,” he added.
