Robin Koch has said that he would be open to the prospect of becoming the captain of Leeds United in the future.

It is key to state that the £11.5 million (Daily Mail) man’s future at Elland Road is far from secure, with his contract set to expire in 2024, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that ‘many clubs’ are keen on his signature.

After all, Newcastle United have constantly been linked with a switch for the German centre-back.

However, it seems as if Robin Koch is willing to turn a blind eye to the transfer speculation, considering he only just admitted that taking on the responsibility of being Leeds captain entices him.

Robin Koch opens up on Leeds captain dream amid transfer interest

While the 26-year-old did confidently claim that the Whites will survive relegation this season, it would be naive to assume that he has not considered the possibility of a departure if the club drop down to the Championship.

As things stand, however, the ‘incredible’ Robin Koch is clearly bullish about Leeds’ chances of staying put in the Premier League as he spoke about his desire to become club captain.

“Why not?”, he replied to German outlet Spox.

Koch continued, “But even without a bandage, I want to be a leader in the team and also set a good example off the pitch.

Koch certainly fits the criteria

Since joining the club in 2020, the reliable defender has been an ever-present member in the side and has made for an astute pickup.

With Robin Koch having 3 years of experience as a Leeds player while being known for his consistency and leadership abilities, one can see why he would fit the bill as the side’s captain one day.

However, it all depends on whether the player even decides to stay, as the temptation of a move to Newcastle must likely be sizable.
