There could soon be an intriguing battle for the left-back spot at Liverpool.

Andrew Robertson found himself on the periphery of proceedings at Liverpool earlier in the season following his move from Hull City, but the Scotland international has certainly seized his opportunity in the absence of Alberto Moreno.

Robertson has started Liverpool’s last six Premier League games, with Moreno sidelined with an ankle problem.

However, there could soon be a very interesting battle for Liverpool’s left-back spot, with Moreno likely to be back in contention by the time Liverpool host Manchester City on January 14th, as reported by the Liverpool Echo.

Having previously been widely criticised for his performances, Moreno has shown some significant signs of improvement this season as he has been significantly more resolute defensively, while he has continued to provide a notable attacking threat.

Now it is up to Robertson over the next couple of weeks to convince Jurgen Klopp that he deserves to stay in the side at Moreno’s expense.

Robertson has proven himself to be a dependable performer of late but now has an additional incentive to excel as he aims to become fully established as a regular starter in the Liverpool defence.
